"That patty is green. Green!"
That was a quote from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Pretty Patties," in which SpongeBob makes millions from selling multicolored hamburgers. The joke is that no burger joint in their right mind would ever think that such an idea would be a success. Apparently, one of the top fast food chains in the world took this episode of a children's program as a legitimate source of inspiration.
In honor of the Halloween season, Burger King has released the Nightmare King: a combination of a fried chicken patty and a bacon cheeseburger on a... green bun, which the restaurant chain claims has the power to give you nightmares. In an ironic twist of life imitating art, the visually unusual sandwich garnered a healthy amount of anticipation. Of course, not all anticipation leads to an appetizing outcome.
Redditor u/stephenmcqueen shared that photo of a genuine, unabridged unveiling of the Nightmare King, and quite a nightmare it turned out to be.
"My whole life I've known not to eat green bread. How could I possibly look at this and think it's OK to eat now?!" added angerybeaver in a comment.
If the poor construction of this particular item and its signature sickly color were not enough to cause you a sleepless night just by the mere sight of it, many have found the end result to be even more disturbing.
And that's not all:
Well, I guess you can say there is some truth in Burger King's advertising: the Nightmare King does induce a nightmare, and it is real.
