19 Must-Know Facts About The Final Days Of Filming "Harry Potter"

For pretty much every actor involved in the two films (which were filmed at the same time), the final day of filming was a highly emotional one. In fact, every main actor's final day of filming was publicly announced on set and met with a round of applause from the cast and crew. So sweet!

On his last day on the "Potter" set, Alan Rickman (Snape) gave Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) some career advice that really stuck with him. In an emotional Instagram post, Lewis recently shared his fond memories of the late actor. 

Tom Felton’s real life girl friend, Jade Gordon, is the actress who played Draco’s wife in the epilogue of the movie. Felton and his girlfriend met on the set of "Harry Potter" when she was an assistant. Felton persuaded her to take the minor role in the final film!

Rupert Grint admitted that when he finally cleaned out his dressing room after seven movies, he found cards from his 14th birthday. For the record, Grint was 23 when he finished filming the movies! It's hilarious because it sounds like a total Ron move, but it's also emotional because it shows just how long they spent as a movie family. 

On the last day of filming, Grint brought his famous ice cream truck to set and enlisted the help of Emma Watson to help hand out ice cream to the cast and crew. 

Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) revealed that speech at the end of the movie was all improvised! He wanted to keep everyone on their toes and get authentic and surprised reactions from the actors who were playing Death Eaters. 

Daniel Radcliffe revealed that he got to keep Harry’s first and last pair of glasses.

Alan Rickman also revealed that he held onto Snape’s wand after filming wrapped. 

In addition to Radcliffe and Rickman, Emma Watson revealed that she got to keep Hermione’s time turner, cloak and wand! However, many cast members with lesser billing said they were randomly searched to make sure they weren't stealing any props from set. 

Director David Yates revealed that he was absolutely adamant about the original trio being the actors who appeared in the epilogue in "Deathly Hallows Part 2." While some thought the Benjamin Button style make-up was a bit hokey, Yates thought it was vital to end the series with the three actors that started it all.

According to Draco Malfoy himself, the actor hated nothing more about the entire filming process than the fact that he had to dye his hair blonde. 

It took two days to just film the one scene with seven Harrys. It involved multiple body doubles and (according to Radcliffe) was so complex that one single shot even involved close to 90 takes. It definitely paid off, though. 

Radcliffe admitted that when it came to the Seven Harrys scene, he most enjoyed playing the Ron version because he loved impersonating Rupert Grint's "funny" walk.

Over the whole series, Radcliffe used around 80 different wands. It's not too crazy considering it took around a decade to film the series! 

The actors who play Mad Eye Moody and Bill Weasley are father and son in real life! Brendan Gleeson is a respected actor who brought Moody to life, while his son Domhnall is a hot young talent in the industry with credits like "Brooklyn" and "Ex Machina."

Emma Watson has said that both Daniel and Rupert are like brothers to her, so no doubt it was very awkward to kiss both of them. However, the actress revealed that she thought Daniel Radcliffe was slightly less awkward to kiss than Rupert Grint. They also had to keep reshooting the scene because all three involved kept laughing when they got too close to each other. 

Since it was a closed set, even Rupert Grint had to be kicked off of it during Watson and Radcliffe’s kissing scene. They were covered in silver body paint for the filming of it. 

It took around eight months to make the prosthetics used on the goblins who appear in Gringotts. In fact, every single hair was added deliberately to achieve the most realistic effect possible! It definitely paid off. 

Only Alan Rickman knew that Snape was still in love with Lily Potter throughout the course of filming the series. Author J.K. Rowling clued Rickman in before many of the books were even published so that he could use that intel to play his character. Rickman reportedly lied to people on set when they asked him for off-limits info!
